Copenhagen is the leading gastronomy capital in Scandinavia. The city has more Michelin stars than any neighbouring country - 13 in total - and the World’s Best Restaurant is also located in Copenhagen: NOMA. For two years in a row it has sensationally won first place at the San Pellegrino Awards which rank the top 50 restaurants in the world every year. But Copenhagen is much more than just exclusive Michelin food. The city has a wide selection of cafés and restaurants which offer everything from traditional Danish "smørrebrød" - open sandwiches - to organic and exotic food. Copenhagen also hosts the annual Copenhagen Cooking food festival each August.
Maven – Restaurant & Wine bar
’Maven – Restaurant & Wine bar’ offer quality wines and good beer at honest prices and classic dishes with an elegant twist, freshly made from the best ingredients. In the 19th Century this was the home of the city’s butcher shops and thus referred to by the locals as ‘Maven’, meaning ‘the Stomach’. We treat the stomach without overdoing the gastronomical ambitions.
Organic restaurants
The environment-friendly ambitions of Copenhagen are also reflected in the menus of many eateries around town. Several restaurants offer organic menus, other serve dishes from locally produced ingredients, and yet others are very focused on the restaurant’s energy consumption. At BioMio in the Meat Packing District all ingredients are organic. And at Soupanatural you can get organic soups and cocktails.
Gourmet restaurants
Danish chefs are known worldwide for their great ability to exploit the natural resources of the Nordic larder and to shape a modern local cuisine with international appeal. Copenhagen has a lot to offer when it comes to gourmet experiences, and several restaurants have exclusive and original menus.
The most famous and honoured gourmet restaurant is Noma. The restaurant was voted the world’s number 1 restaurant in 2010 and 2011, and has been awarded 2 Michelin stars.
Danish lunch
The Danes eat lunch like no others, and while in Copenhagen it is a must to try the unique smørrebrød (literally "butter bread", or open sandwich). Invariably based on rye bread, smørrebrød can have an almost limitless number of different toppings, from herring, to raw beef, seafood and egg. For a true lunch experience don´t forget to order a Danish aquavit to go along with the smørrebrød.
Brunch
Indulge yourself in scrambled eggs, mini sausages, Danish bacon, fresh fruit and delicious pancakes at anyone of Copenhagen’s many cafés. Cap Horn serves an organic brunch right in Nyhavn, and at the National Gallery of Denmark you can fill up on a complete brunch before you admire all the great artwork.
Café Petersborg
The regulars are dapper middle-aged gentlemen in suits and ties who have left their law offices, chambers and accountancy firms in Frederiksstaden at the end of the working day. The menu is chock-full of Danish national dishes. The atmosphere is familiar. If you are curious about Denmark’s identity, you should step down into the cellar of Café Petersborg.
Ida Davidsen
The most Danish thing you can eat is smørrebrød, an open sandwich. Bread, butter and topping. As easy as that! At Ida Davidsen there are 177 combinations. If you want a combination that doesn’t exist, that’s fine too.
No. 1 Aarhusgade
Chef Morten Bech Køster has worked in a lot of luxury restaurants, but he has chosen a more humble restaurant himself and it shows in the prices, but not in the quality. No. 1 Aarhusgade is a luxury restaurant for ordinary budgets. Here is a French and Spanish inspiration to the personally composed menu. A large selection of good quality desserts, put together with a nice sense of aesthetics and a fine balance between sweet and sour.

The Fish Bar
The Fish Bar is all about fish and shellfish. It’s about fresh, healthy, delicious food. About fine wine and a great atmosphere. We want to offer a restaurant experience, that in our opinion is yet to be found in Copenhagen and we strive to give our costumers relaxed, atmospheric and affordable experiences when visiting our restaurant.
Here you can snack in the bar, kick back on the sofas, sit at the tables inside, or enjoy the evening sun from under the canopy outside. You can share delicious small dishes, savor a single main course or spoil yourself with a full menu. You can sip a glass of wine, or choose from a wine list containing selections from vineyards we often know and can personally recommend. Relax in the bar while you wait for friends, or retire there after dinner and explore an adventurous drinks menu.
The old entrance to Copenhagen’s meatpacking district still lies under the bull in the middle of the White Meat City - but it no longer leads to endless slabs of meat suspended from hooks. Instead we invite you to the White Meat City’s Fish Bar where fresh fish has replaced well-hung meat.
